Food Face Off

Hey guys, how’s everyone been? Is everyone excited it’s Friday?! I sure am 🙂
I meant to post this a few days ago but my computer got a virus.. Yuck!

So I was thinking about starting a new segment called “Food Face Off” which basically will entail me picking two similar foods and comparing them nutritionally. How are you feeling about this? Do you think it’s a good idea, or should I scrap it?

Today I chose snack foods because I honestly eat more snacks than any other food group…. is a snack even a food group? Whatever, to me it is!

Tonight I was in a salty/crunchy mood and therefore I selected wasabi dry roasted edamame. Meanwhile Elliott picked up some sea-salt popcorn… because he’s normal and I am clearly not!

Contender 1: Popcorn Indiana Fit Popcorn with Sea Salt
Serving size: 3 and 1/2 cups
What it’s got going for it:
1. It only has 4 ingredients in it and you can pronounce all of them!
2. You get 3 and 1/2 cups for only 130 calories.
3. It’s gluten free.

The bad news:
1. It’s got a higher fat count (6g vs 4.5 g)
2. You can eat a lot for few calories but with only 3 grams protein and 3 grams fiber, you’re more likely to be hungry in a hour.

Contender 2: Seapoint Farms Dry Roasted Edamame, Wasabi
Serving size: 1/4 Cup
What it’s got going for it:
1. These crunchy crisps really pack in the flavor and in my opinion after eating the serving size (1/4C) you are totally satisfied!
2. These have a crazy amount of dietary fiber (7 grams!) in such a small quantity.
3. With protein levels at 14 grams per serving you’ll stay full for practically forever
4. These are slightly lower in sodium than their competitors coming in at 130 mg vs 220. Less sodium = less bloating.
5. You will only find 9 grams of carbohydrates in this snack, whereas the popcorn has a whopping 17 grams.

The bad news:
1. If you’re not super careful these addicting bites can really add up in calories
2. these have 1 gram of sugar in them… while not a lot at all, they do have more than their competitor.
3. If you aren’t a fan of spicy, these may be too intense for you (though they do come in a variety of flavors).

The winner:

Well both of these snacks are an A+ in my book. Overall I would have to give the crown to the edamame due to its high flavor, fiber, and protein! Though I will admit in my fiances defense I haven’t stopped munching on the popcorn since he picked it up for himself 🙂 Oops!

That’s all for now loves,
Enjoy your weekend.
